In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to transform simple dried gourds into stunning works of art using techniques such as woodburning, dyeing, and embellishing to bring out each gourd’s natural beauty and unique shape. Kathy will teach basic gourd techniques, gourd safety, and how to use gourd tools. She will then give you options and ideas to adorn your gourd with beads, charms and feathers. Kathy also has a large selection of organic and foraged items to choose from or bring your own. The instructor will bring all tools and materials needed. Materials are included in the class fee.
Kit includes a cleaned gourd, dyes and paints to colorize the gourd, and a wide variety of feathers, embellishments, foraged items, and beads.
Kit also includes written instructions regarding gourd techniques and safety, and the use of gourd saws and woodburning tools during the class.
This activity is made possible by grants through the Region 2 Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
