In seeking out and amplifying voices of Indigenous artists and culture bearers, the M, guided by Kagigebi, hopes to influence both the types of artists who are supported, seen, and centered at the museum, and to show both Indigenous and non-Indigenous visitors a more comprehensive, complicated, and true story of Minnesotan art and artists.
"Queering Indigeneity" will open at the M in the Nancy and John Lindahl Gallery on September 18th, 2025 featuring 16 native artists from the Upper Midwest: Sharon Day, Ryan Young, Delia Touché, Awanigiizhik Bruce, Niibawi Ajijaak, Awanaabe Syverson, Zoe Allen, Naawakamigookwe Lera Hephner, Noah Polk, Madeline Treuer, Chewie Mason, Asin-Gwiiwizens, Sav Jonsa, Giiwedin, Nick Metcalf, and Penny Kagigebi.

Oils Made Easy with Isabelle Harmon
Class Cost: $125. Class size: 10 per location. To register: www.bagleyarts.org
2 Class opportunities:
Option 1 in Bagley: June 17th-19th at Bagley Public Library Community Room.
Option 2 in Park Rapids: September 24th-26th at Armory Arts & Events Center.
This workshop is for all those who want a fun and easy introduction to painting with oils. Oil painting is very forgiving and sensational vehicle for texture and color.
We will talk about the minimum tools necessary to get started and learn some tips to make a delightful landscape using an image supplied by the instructor.
In order to speed up the process as oils are slow-drying, two basic acrylic colors will first be applied to the canvas. Once dry, oils will be used in varying layers.
Success is guaranteed, so take the leap and join Izzy for either of these creative and joyful sessions!
The instructor will also bring all materials needed, materials are included in the class fee.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Refugia: the seasonal Pond Project -
Watermark Art Center welcomes textile artist Kristen Anderson on October 3 with an opening reception for her exhibit "Refugia: the seasonal Pond Project" from 5 to 7pm. Anderson will give a brief artist presentation at 5:30. The exhibit will be on display through January 30, 2026.
Just as pockets of rich memory may emerge amid a human mind in cognitive decline, remnants of ecosystem diversity that retain resilience amid changing conditions are referred to as ecological "refugia". Anderson uses tapestries, poems and vignettes to illustrate this comparison.
For Anderson, creating the Refugia series was about finding a path forward to cope with difficult and emerging circumstances, both personally and environmentally. It is about learning to relate as a caregiver to both a special ecosystem and to a changing person. Like a mind that is experiencing the roadblocks of disease, the seasonal ponds are at great risk due to weakened wetland laws, development, and a changing climate.
There is no cost to attend this event. Watermark is accessible and there is no fee to view exhibits or to visit the retail gallery during regular hours: Monday – Saturday from 10am to 5pm. 505 Bemidji Avenue N. in Bemidji, MN. 218-444-7570.
