“A native to the landscape that I explore, my photographs reflect an ongoing survey of the Midwest region that express the sense of a particular place and of a particular vision. Over the years I’ve spent the majority of my time in the wonderful openness of North Dakota, and of late in northern Minnesota on the White Earth Reservation. I should ass that I’ve explored the stark landscape of Iceland where my ancestors lived, the Sonoran desert where I spent my winters, and the Burgundy region of France where my daughter lives.” Wayne Gudmundson’s work is in the permanent collection of many major museums including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, the Reykjavik Museum of Photography, the Canadian Center for Architecture in Montreal, and the Plains Art Museum in Fargo. The Nemeth Art Center’s 2024 season is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota from a grant through the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
