Sharing Our LAPORTE Area Stories

You are invited to come share your story of living in this unique part of Northern Minnesota. The Northwoods Writers Group of Laporte has committed to helping our friends and neighbors record personal stories of themselves and their families to be collected in print form. A KICKOFF MEETING for the project will be held at the Lakeport Township Hall at the top of the hill in Laporte on Tuesday, March 31 at 7 PM.

Representatives of the Writers Group will be at the Lakeport Township Hall each Tuesday of April and May from 3-5 pm to help you get your story recorded. We will have available recording equipment (as well as a scanner and color copier for those who prefer to bring in hard copies of their writings and photos) to collect your memories of the Laporte area. For those of you who can’t make it to an afternoon time, volunteers will also be available the evenings of April 21 and 28, and May 19 at a time convenient for you.

While we are asking for individual anecdotes of living in and near Laporte, contributors are not limited to just one story.

When the project concludes, you will have the capability to get a copy of your story–and many others–on a flash drive or in print. Each contributor will be listed in the credits, along with an accompanying photo. We can take pictures or you can contribute a photo.

For the purposes of this project, the Laporte area is defined as SOUTH of Highway 2, WEST of Highway 371, NORTH of Highway 34, and EAST of Highway 71, as well as adjoining areas (especially if you and/or your family have close ties to the Laporte area).
