This 10-week Adult Intro to Drawing class is your chance to unlock your creativity, gain confidence, and bring your ideas to life on paper.

Taught by local artist and educator Brett Wallin, this beginner-friendly course focuses on developing drawing skills with a special emphasis on the human form and portraits. Participants will explore techniques such as contour drawing, gesture sketching, shading, and proportion to build both accuracy and confidence. Through a mix of quick sketches and longer studies, you’ll learn how to capture movement, structure, and expression, bringing figures and faces to life on paper.

Special attention will be given to anatomy, facial features, and body proportions in a way that’s approachable—even for those completely new to drawing. You’ll practice from live models as well as from photographs, building essential observational skills and adaptability. Along the way, you’ll experiment with materials like graphite, charcoal, and ink to discover your personal style.

More than just a class, this is a supportive community where you’ll meet others on their own creative journey. Together, you’ll share ideas, celebrate progress, and leave each week feeling more inspired and confident in your abilities.

By the end of the course, you’ll have:

  • A strong foundation in drawing, even if you’ve never drawn before

  • The skills to capture figures and portraits with accuracy and expression

  • Guidance from Brett Wallin, a passionate artist and teacher

  • Completed works you can be proud of

  • A renewed sense of creativity and confidence

Participants will receive their own sketchbook, drawing pencil set, eraser, and sharpener.

If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could draw”—this is the perfect place to begin.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Community Arts Support Grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, funded by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund and from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
