Learn how to make black ash pack baskets from harvest to finish with local artist, Nate Johnson. This four-day workshop for adults will begin on Thursday, March 12th, continue on Friday, March 13th, and Saturday, March 14th, and end on Sunday, March 15th. The class will take place from 10 am to 5 pm each day at the Turtle River Township Community Center. Please only register if you can attend all four days. There is no fee to attend, but we suggest bringing tobacco, a gift, or a donation for Nate since he's generously sharing with us. All are welcome! There are a limited number of spots for this workshop. Lunch and light refreshments will be served each day. Each person will be able to go home with their own black ash pack basket! We are looking forward to it!
Nate Johnson lives outside of Bemidji, Minnesota, where he teaches a range of traditional crafts, including basketry, canoe building, hide tanning, and other seasonal crafts related to food and land based living. He also makes and sells custom knives and tools.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
