Join Katie Kroeck  and M from Jackalope Tattoo for a conversation about beginning a career as a tattoo artist. Jackalope Tattoo is a Minneapolis-based tattoo shop dedicated to fostering an inclusive and accessible space for both clients and tattoo artists. M and Katie will answer your questions about developing your portfolio, finding apprenticeship opportunities, obtaining your tattoo license, and more. Moderated by Dana Sikkila, Artist Career Consultant and Workshop Facilitator, Springboard for the Arts.

Katie Kroeck (she/her) is a 37 year old tattoo artist who’s lived and worked in the twin cities her entire life. Attended mcad from 2005-2009 and earned a degree in illustration. Her tattoo career began in the winter of 2009, and she has worked in 4 shops since then, 11 years with Jackalope. She loves color theory, neo traditional, art nouveau, and comic influences. M (they/them) is a half-Japanese, autistic and transgender tattoo artist who owns Jackalope Tattoo in south Minneapolis, MN. Their shop, founded in 2013, employs 16 artists and staff of marginalized genders. M has been tattooing for 13 years and specializes in black and grey portraiture, realism, and gender affirming tattoos. Dana Sikkila (she/her) is a Minnesota-based interdisciplinary maker and creator. At just 36 years old, Sikkila has been named one of the most well-known creative leaders of Southern Minnesota. Known for her social practice and activism programs, creative consulting, public speaking, and her theory development within creative curriculum, Sikkila’s practices span from working in communities from rural to the Twin Cities. Her self-defining administration style has bridged the gap between arts creation and administration. Developing numerous grassroots cultural projects and exhibitions throughout the state.
