Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists,
a Professional Development opportunity for artists living in Beltrami, Lake of the Woods, Hubbard, Mahnomen and Clearwater counties

Region 2 Arts Council, in collaboration with Springboard for the Arts and Lake Region Arts Council, is excited to announce a new series of Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists workshops. Funding for the series is made possible by the voters of Minnesota, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and support of the West Central Initiative Fund.

Workshops will be available exclusively to artists and creative entrepreneurs in the Lakes Region Arts Council and Region 2 Arts Council service areas:  Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse, Wilkin, Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods and Mahnomen counties.

Held every two Wednesdays from 1:00 – 3:30pm

“We are delighted to be able to partner with the Lakes Region Arts Council and Region 2 Arts Council to bring these workshops to artists in our area,” says Springboard Rural Program Director Michele Anderson. “Right now it is especially important for artists to have the skills, connection, and community needed to build their practices and their creative businesses, and these workshops will provide that opportunity.”

Workshops will be held via Zoom and participation via computer is recommended, however, joining the workshop by phone is also an option if internet or computer access is a barrier. All workshops will include closed captioning services. Participants are invited to register for the whole series or for specific workshops relevant to their needs.

March 10 in Bemidji: Record Keeping and Financial Management

How does your actual income compare with your desired income?  Learn how Budgets and Cash Flow Statements help you plan for profit (it isn’t just whatever is left at the end.) Making accurate projections about what to expect allows you to plan for it and to prosper. When: Tuesday, March 10, 2015. 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

March 11th in Park Rapids: Legal Considerations for Artists

From protecting your intellectual property to choosing a legal form for your artistic business, an understanding of underlying legal principles will help you make smarter choices. This session centers on information about copyrights and contract basics regarding selling and licensing your work, as well as getting into business.

Art Making + Creative Partnerships = Community Wellbeing

KairosPeople working in health care, social services, education, environmental sustainability, and the arts, please join us for an interactive workshop with KAIROS ALIVE! Founder and Director Maria Genné and Program Coordinator Carla Vogel.

Workshop participants will

  • Explore the impact of artistic engagement for older adults
  • Generate ideas for community-based intergenerational art activitities
  • Expand and deepen an understanding of the role of art in community wellbeing
  • Consider the potential for partnerships based in collaboration, mutual respect and creativity
  • View clips from the PBS series, ARTS & THE MIND, featuring Maria Genne
  • Participate in creative dialogue through storytelling, theatre and dance

Doing Business Online: a FREE Workshop for Artists

Doing Business Online is a FREE professional development workshop for Region 2 artists taking place in Bemidji on June 11, 2012.

Are you an artist?  Are you interested in using the Internet to expand your arts business? University of Minnesota Extension’s Ryan Pesch is returning to Bemidji to present Doing Business Online, a FREE professional development workshop for artists.

Thursday February 16: Marketing your Website for Artists (there’s still space!)

Whether you have a website or you’re planning your future site, there’s something for every artist in Marketing your Website.

Thursday February 16, from 5:30-8:30 in the Bemidji High School Computer Lab, our presenter, UMN-Extension educator Adeel Ahmed, will discuss strategies artists can use to get their website “on the digital map,” bringing traffic more efficiently and more effectively to their site.

“Customers get to websites in different ways such as through search, advertisements, business cards and brochures, and links from other websites…The class will focus on how to get listed higher in Google search which includes getting your link on other websites, using social media, business aggregation sites, email lists,  location based services, and review based services.”

E-Commerce for Artists consists of 3 workshops:

Websites DIY      5:30-8:30 pm Thursday, January 26
Participants leave the 3-hour, hands-on workshop having developed a basic website through Google Sites. (Location: Bemidji High School Computer Lab)

Social Media Marketing         5:30-8:30 pm Thursday, February 2
Participants explore basic fundamentals of social networking sites and discuss the potential benefits of engaging in social media marketing (BHS Computer Lab).

Marketing your Website       5:30-8:30 pm Thursday, February 16 Participants learn new ways to improve traffic to their websites (BHS Computer Lab).

e-Commerce for Artists is a University of Minnesota-Extension workshop series facilitated by seasoned presenters Adeel Ahmed and Ryan Pesch .
