The Anishinaabe Arts Initiative (AAI) Fellowship provides unfettered funding to one individual Native American artist to fuel his/her art in Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Mahnomen, Lake of the Woods, Becker, Roseau, Cass, and Itasca counties in Minnesota.

The goal of the AAI Fellowship Program is to assist the region’s most talented Native American artists in furthering and innovating their work. One $5,000 award will be granted in 2020.
The funds can be used for, but not limited to:

  • Exploring new directions or continuing work in progress
  • Production costs, materials, or equipment
  • Collaborative or community projects
  • Travel, research or study to further your art.

Spring Arts Access Grant

Deadline: March 15, 2020 by 11:45 p.m.
Maximum Award: $6,000
(20% Cash Match required; 25% Match on equipment purchases)

Arts Access Grants are open to non-profits, public and charter schools*, community education programs, arts organizations, institutions of higher learning, government and tribal entities, and groups formed for nonprofit purposes with a fiscal sponsor.  These grants can support creation, production, and presentation of high-quality arts activities, as well as projects that help overcome barriers to accessing high-quality arts activities, and projects that help instill the arts into the community and public life in our region. Arts activities proposed for funding must be accessible by the public, have a strong community component, and must benefit the residents of Beltrami, Hubbard, Clearwater, Lake of the Woods, or Mahnomen Counties.

*Parochial schools are ineligible.

Arts Access Grants for Organizations

Deadline: September 15, 2019
Maximum Award: $6,000
Open to non-profits, non-parochial schools, government or tribal offices, or groups with a fiscal sponsor. These grants can support creation, production, and presentation of high-quality arts activities, as well as projects that help overcome barriers to accessing high-quality arts activities, and projects that help instill the arts into the community and public life in our region.

R2AC Artist Fellowship for Individuals

Deadline: September 15, 2019
Maximum Award: $6,000*
*Two $6,000 fellowships will be awarded.
Open to established artists in all arts disciplines who have shown a consistent commitment to their work as artists over the past five years. This 18-month fellowship provides unfettered funding to fuel your art.
Region 2 Arts Council Individual Artist Grants are made possible with funding from the McKnight Foundation.

Arts Access Grants for Small Towns

Maximum Award: $6,000
Deadline: April 15, 2018 by 11:59 pm

These grants can support creation, production, and presentation of high-quality arts activities, as well as projects that help overcome barriers to accessing high-quality arts activities, and projects that help instill the arts into the community and public life in our region. These grants offer funding for a variety of arts projects and programming including costs associated with public art, arts festivals, exhibitions, presentations, or performances. Organizations or groups in towns with a population under 2,000 can apply for grants up to $6,000 to fund projects that would benefit the residents of Beltrami, Hubbard, Clearwater, Lake of the Woods, or Mahnomen Counties.

Arts Project and Fellowship Grant Apps DUE Wednesday Sept. 11

Arts Project Grants

  • New This Year:  Grants for up to $2,500.00 are available for arts programming
  • There is a 20% cash match required
  • R2AC has $12,000 in funds available for this round
  • Nonprofits, public entities (schools, higher learning institutions, community ed, government offices), arts organizations are eligible
  • Activity must be located in the five counties of Region 2
  • Applicant organizations, etc. must be located in the five counties of Region 2

R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowship

  • Eligible Applicants can demonstrate a history of sustained accomplishment in their chosen artistic field over a period of at least five years
  • Eligible Applicants must reside in the five-county area of Region 2 for at least one full year prior to the deadline date of the application
  • Two Fellowships of $6000 a piece are available
  • The Fellowship should be completed within 18 months of notification of the Board

Open to established artists in all disciplines who show a commitment to their career. This 18-month fellowship provides the opportunity for career development experiences that will add depth and advancement to any artistic career.  Eligible applicants must reside in Beltrami, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, or Clearwater county of Minnesota.

Applications are available at the Region 2 Arts Council Office, 426 Bemidji Avenue, Bemidji, MN  56601 or on our website. If you have applied in the past, please make sure you download a current application form. The R2AC/ Career Development Fellowship is funded by the McKnight Foundation.

Arts Project Grants

Open to any non-profit organization, schools (including community education offices), and units of government. These grants offer funding for a variety of art projects including costs related to performances or exhibitions, engagement of guest artists, and artists-in-residence.

 Region 2 Arts Council’s Arts Project Grants are funded by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund. Projects funded through this grant program should have primary impact on and accessibility to residents of Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, and Mahnomen Counties.

R2AC Grant Writing Workshop Offered in Baudette, MN

legacy_smlRegion 2 Arts Council will offer a FREE grant writing workshop from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 17, 2013 at the Depot in Baudette. All Region 2 Arts Council grant requests are for arts-related projects, materials and supplies. High artistic quality is expected.

Individual artists, educational institutions, government offices, and non-profit organizations in Beltrami, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, and Clearwater Counties are eligible to apply for Region 2 Arts Council grants.

4:00-5:00 pm. Region 2 Arts Council grants for organizations:

Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant (requests up to $6000 / deadline Aug. 14, 2013) and Arts Project Grant (requests up to $2500 / deadline Sept. 11, 2013).

5:00-6:00 Region 2 Arts Council grants for individuals:

Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant (requests up to $3000 / deadline Aug. 14, 2013), R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowships for established artists ( $6000/ deadline Sept. 11, 2013), Individual Artist Grants (requests up to $1000 / deadline Oct. 3, 2013) and Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants (requests up to $1000 / deadline Oct. 1, 2013. Native Artists residing in Roseau county are also eligible for this grant).

Remember,  the postmark deadline for the R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowship and the Arts Project Grant is TOMORROW, September 12, at 5:00 p.m. So drop off your applications at our office in the Old Carnegie Library Building at 426 Bemidji Avenue N in Bemidji or drop them off at the post office and ensure they are postmarked by Sept. 12.
