Arts and Cultural Heritage Grants

Deadline: August 14, 2013 by 5:00 p.m.
Open to artists in all art disciplines, any non-profit organization, school (including community education offices), and units of government. These grants support three key areas: Arts Activities and Arts Access, Arts Education, and Arts and Cultural Heritage. Individual artists can apply for grants up to $3,000 and organizations can apply for grants up to $6,000.      

Arts & Cultural Heritage Grants are funded through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund passed by Minnesota voters on November 4, 2008 as part of the Clean Water, Land & Legacy Amendment. Projects funded through Region 2 Arts Council’s Arts & Cultural Heritage grant program should have primary impact on and accessibility to residents of Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, and Mahnomen Counties.

R2AC Grant Writing Workshops in Park Rapids and Mahnomen

legacy_smlRegion 2 Arts Council is offering FREE grant writing workshops in two locations:

  • Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from  5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Coldwell Banker Community Room, 101 Main Ave. South in Park Rapids, MN.
  • Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Mahnomen Museum in the new building between the museum and the Red Apple Cafe on Main Street in Mahnomen, MN.

All Region 2 Arts Council grant requests are for arts-related projects, materials and supplies. High artistic quality is expected of all funded projects.

Individual artists, educational institutions, government offices, and non-profit organizations in Hubbard, Beltrami, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, and Clearwater Counties are eligible to apply for Region 2 Arts Council grants.

Native Artists residing in Itasca, Becker, Roseau and Cass counties are also eligible for this grant).

legacy_smlThe following Grant Writing Workshops will familiarize potential applicants with the application process, what projects are eligible, how to develop a project budget and other tips for R2AC grants.

Grants and Deadlines:

Workshops for organizations, schools, and units of government will cover the Arts and Cultural Heritage grant (deadline Aug 14, 2013) and Arts Project Grant (deadline Sept 11, 2013).

Workshops for individuals will be tailored to the individuals present including covering the Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant (deadline Aug 14, 2013), R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowships (deadline Sept 11, 2013), Individual Artist Grants (deadline Oct 3, 2013), and Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants (deadline Oct 1,2013).

Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant Writing Workshop for Individuals and Organizations Offered in Bemidji

image001Region 2 Arts Council will offer a FREE grant writing workshop from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 10, 2013 in our office in the lower level of the Historic Carnegie Library Building at 426 Bemidji Avenue N., in Bemidji. Please register in advance.

A new Region 2 Arts Council granting cycle begins with the August 14, 2013 deadline for the Arts and Cultural Heritage grant. Individual Artists, Schools, Community Ed Programs, Government Offices, Cultural Groups and Non-Profit Organizations in Beltrami, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, and Clearwater County are eligible to apply for this grant.  Individuals may request up to $3,000; Organizations may request up to $6,000. All projects funded through Arts and Cultural Heritage Grants must show artistic excellence and have a clear community component.

Also at this workshop, organizations, schools, and units of government will have the opportunity to learn more about our Arts Project Grant (deadline September 11, 2013) New this year: Arts Project Grant requests up to $2,500 will be considered (do I hear a cheer? :)).

Artist Mentor Grant Program Applications Due April 4, 2013

LegacyLogoGRANTS FOR YOUNG ARTISTS in ALL DISCIPLINES AVAILABLE

The Region 2 Arts Council encourages 8-12 grade student artists residing in Beltrami, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Clearwater, and Mahnomen counties to apply for a Region 2 Arts Council Legacy Funded Artist Mentor Grant.  Grant recipients receive either 20 hours of one-on-one mentoring with an area adult artist or they receive $600 to pay toward tuition for a class, camp or workshop in the student’s art discipline in the state of MN.

Mailed grant applications must be postmarked by April 4, 2013.  Applicants may personally drop off application packets at the Region 2 Arts Council Office in Bemidji by 5 p.m. on April 4, 2013.

Arts Coffee Party with Sen. Saxhaug: this Saturday!

State Sen. Saxhaug is extraordinarily important to the arts and he’s coming to Bemidji! We’re calling on artists and arts advocates to attend the coffee party on Saturday to let Sen. Saxhaug know the powerful impact arts funding has on our communities.

Sen. Saxhaug is the Chair of the Senate State Departments and Veterans Division (which determines general fund allocation for the arts) and is a Member of the Senate Subcommittee on Legacy (which decides Arts Legacy Funding).

You bring the arts to our Region. Attend the coffee party to advocate for the continued funding for the arts!

Arts Advocacy Day is March 7, 2013 at the State Capitol

Join your fellow arts advocates from around the State and from Region 2 to talk about the arts, make new contacts, and educate our legislators at the State Capitol about the importance of the arts.

Arts Downtown Park Rapids This Thursday, Nov. 15

Jason Wright will perform sacred, familiar and holiday music from 5 to 5:30 and 6 to 6:30 p.m. at Bella Caffè.

The Arts Downtown PR series continues from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 at four locations in downtown Park Rapids.

Jason Wright will be performing a blend of sacred, familiar and holiday music from 5 to 5:30 and 6 to 6:30 p.m. at Bella Caffè, 116 3rd Street West. Wright recently moved to Menahga and will serve as interim director of the Park Rapids Classic Chorale when Jim Wheeler retires. He continues his work with the nationally recognized pianists, Tim and Ryan O’Neill, selling music, editing sheet music and traveling as an associate pianist to promote their albums.

Chef Tom Geraedts will show how to prepare artistic, decorative food trays for the holidays from 5:30 to 6 and 6:30 to 7 p.m. at Beagle Books, 112 3rd Street West.

Singer/songwriter Trinity Junes will play his own brand of acoustic rock and blues from 5:30 to 6 and 6:30 to 7 p.m. at Necce’s Ristorante, 311 South Main Ave. Junes, who is from Menahga, adds the harmonica to some of his songs and will perform some of the music on his new CD, “I Get By.”

Taylor Schroeder will perform classic folk and folk/rock from 5:30 to 6 and from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at The Good Life Cafe, 220 South Main Ave. Schroeder plays a little bit of everything and puts his own gentle twist on some classic oldies; you’re sure to hear something you enjoy. You may have heard him at the Youth Music Showcase events in August.
