R2AC Grant Writing Workshop in Mahnomen this Thursday

On July 26, 2012 at the Red Apple Cafe in Mahnomen, Minnesota, Region 2 Arts Council staff will be presenting FREE grant writing workshops for those interested in applying for Region 2 Arts Council grants.

Thursday July 26: Red Apple Café, 116 North Main Street, Mahnomen
5:00-6:30 p.m.:  Grants for organizations, schools, and units of government: Arts and Cultural Heritage grant (deadline Aug 16) and Arts Project Grant (deadline Sept 12).

6:30-7:30 p.m.:  Grants for individuals: Arts and Cultural Heritage Grants (deadline Aug 16), R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowships (deadline Sept 12), Individual Artist Grants (deadline Oct 4), and Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants (deadline Oct 3).

All workshops will familiarize potential applicants with the application process, what projects are eligible, how to develop a project budget and other tips.

 R2AC grant writing workshops are open to anyone within the Region 2 area: Mahnomen, Beltrami, Clearwater, Lake of the Woods, and Hubbard counties.  Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants, open to Native Artists in surrounding counties, will also be discussed.

The R2AC Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant deadline is August 16, 2012, with other grant deadlines following close behind.  Are you ready?

Register Now! R2AC FREE Grant Writing Workshops in July

With a new round of grant deadlines approaching, Region 2 Arts Council (R2AC) will offer free grant writing workshops for organizations, schools, and units of government and individuals within the five counties of Region 2.

Workshops for organizations will cover  Arts and Cultural Heritage Grants (Aug 16 deadline) and Arts Project Grants (Sept 12 deadline). Special attention will be given to Outcome-Based Evaluations for Arts and Cultural Heritage grants.

Workshops for individual artists will cover Arts and Cultural Heritage Grants (Aug 16 deadline), R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowships (Sept 12 deadline), Individual Artist Grants (Oct 4 deadline), and Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants (Oct 3 deadline).

R2AC Awards Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants

The Region 2 Arts Council (R2AC) has recently awarded $3,750 through the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative (AAI) Program.  Monies awarded are for arts activities related to its mission of supporting, maintaining, and promoting traditional and contemporary Native American arts in North Central Minnesota.   The grant recipients and information about their projects are listed below.

Bonita Desjarlais, of Bena, received $1,000 to purchase tools and equipment to complete Ojibwe style stained glass projects for display in art exhibitions.

Luella M. Zimmerman, of Blackduck, was awarded $1,000 to purchase materials and equipment to make star quits for sale.

Melvin Losh, of Bena, received $1,000 to purchase a laptop computer, flatbed scanner, software and accessories to digitize photographs to create an online archive of his art and quillwork from the last 37 years.

Clem May, of Red Lake, was awarded $750 to purchase a new drum set to use in performances.

The Anishinaabe Arts Initiative grants program is supported by a grant from the McKnight Foundation. Current AAI Council members are Tom Buckanaga, Mary Guardipee, Douglas Lee, Genny Lowry, Bernice Mitchell, Delana Smith, Debra Warren, Delina White, and Harold “Dunesy” White, Jr.

The next deadline for the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative (AAI) Grant is March 6, 2012.  The next deadline for other grants available is the Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant, due on January 17, 2012.

Free Grant Writing Workshops for Native American Artists

Over the next three weeks, the Region 2 Arts Council is offering free grant writing workshops to discuss grant writing tips and procedures with individual artists interested in applying for an Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grant.

The Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grant is open to individual Native American artists residing in Region 2’s Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods and Mahnomen Counties, as well as artists living in nearby Roseau, Itasca, Cass and Becker Counties. Native Artists in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Artists can apply for grants up to $1,000. Grant Deadline is October 6, 2011.
