This year Bemidji was selected to host the Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB) Annual meeting held this week, July 10 and 11. During this time, MSAB will host presentations and workshops, including a series of roundtable discussions. These events offer members of the public a way to listen in and learn about how the arts support vibrant communities, and what is needed to sustain the arts in northern Minnesota. Wednesday, July 10
1:00 – 3:00 pm – Watermark Art Center
Region 2 Overview – Demographics, geography, programs and services, ways the arts are having an impact on the region, and factors that influence access to the arts in this region. Take time to tour Watermark galleries!
3:15 – 4:45 pm – Watermark Art Center
Dr. Anton Treuer – Cultural competence and reconciliation. Engagement exercise(s) for State Arts Board and Region 2 Arts Council staff, board, and council members.
4:45 – 5:30 pm – Various locations in downtown Bemidji
Bemidji Sculpture Walk – Walking tour led by Al Belleveau.
Thursday, July 11
8:00 – 9:30 am – Sanford Center
Arts Community Conversation
10:00 – 11:15 am – Sanford Center
Roundtable discussion -Using the arts to build more vibrant communities with area community leaders.
11:30 – 1:00 pm – Sanford Center
Roundtable discussion – Supporting and sustaining a thriving arts community in northern Minnesota with area arts organization leadership.
2:00 – 4:00 pm – Headwaters Music and Arts
State Arts Board business meeting.
MSAB meetings are conducted in keeping with the Minnesota Open Meeting Law. Members of the public are welcome to listen and observe, but may not participate in meetings unless invited to do so by the board chair or executive director.
