The Region 2 Arts Council Board of Directors recently awarded $3,750 through the Young Artist Grant program. This grant is designed for 8th-12th grade students who have a strong interest in the arts and reside in Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods or Mahnomen counties. Funding supports work with a mentor artist/instructor, or costs associated with attending an arts camp/class/workshop in the state of Minnesota.
The grant recipients included:
Maya Lindquist of Blackduck was awarded $600 to work with vocal mentor Katie Houg on presentation and performance.
Madelyn Schuette of Bemidji was awarded $600 to study trumpet with Dr. Del Lyren.
Paisly Dennis-Winner of Akeley was awarded $600 to study piano with Sandy Andress and to strengthen her composition and sight-reading skills.
Savannah Tomlinson of Bemidji was awarded $600 to work with mentor artist Mary Therese as well as attend Headwaters Music & Arts Summer Arts Camp.
Kaelan Emerson of Park Rapids was awarded $600 to attend the MMEA All-State Choir.
Helen Bartlett of Bemidji was awarded $600 to study vocal performance with Meghan Stringer.
Lillian Douglas of Bemidji was awarded $150 to attend Bemidji MusiCamp and to purchase sheet music.
