The Blank Canvas Gallery and Education Center in conjunction with the Jackpine Writers’ Bloc is presenting their “20×20” project at the Blank Canvas Gallery, 311 Main Ave. S., in downtown Park Rapids. The public is invited to view the works in the gallery 10:00 to 5:00 Monday through Saturday and 12:00 to 4:00 on Sundays. The exhibit is open to the public free of charge and is on display now through mid-July. This is the second time this type of project has been taken on by the Jackpine Writers’ Bloc.
This creative project is a collaboration of 20 artists and 20 writers. Twenty pieces of artwork were selected and twenty writers have then each written a poem or short story about one of the art pieces. The result is displayed in the gallery–each creative writing piece and the piece of artwork that inspired it are shown next to each other. In addition, a book has been published illustrating all the artwork paired with the creative writing efforts of the authors and it will be available at the gallery at a later date.
This activity is made possible, in part, by a grant provided by the Region 2 Arts Council through funding from the Minnesota State Legislature.
