The Bemidji Area Church Musicians announce the 2011 Summer Recital Series to be held at various churches in the city. The recitals are scheduled for 12:00 noon each Wednesday beginning June 1 and continuing through August 24. The weekly 30 minute recitals will feature performances by handbells, organists, pianists, cellos, euphonium, folk instruments, french horn ensemble and others. Admission to each concert is by free will offering. A luncheon will be provided following each recital. Prices for the luncheon will be determined by the serving organization.
The Summer Recital Series, which is in its 24th season, has grown in popularity each summer. The first recital in the series will feature The Bells of Bethel, directed by Carol L. Johnson and Vicki Stenerson. The performance will take place Wednesday, June 1 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5232 Irvine Ave NW.
The Bemidji Area Church Musicians group is dedicated to encouraging musical growth among its members and assisting church musicians in our community in various ways.
One project of the Bemidji Area Church Musicians is to award a scholarship to a college music student with strong interest and involvement in church music. Recipients in 2010 were Faith Lundin, Jennifer Paquette, and Isaac Heath. Faith, Jennifer and Isaac will perform on Wednesday, June 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Scholarships for 2011 have been awarded to Aaron Schnackenberg and Eric Haugen.
