For the first time, the Region 2 Arts Council is offering two $6,000 fellowship awards to professional artists residing in Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, and Mahnomen counties.

The R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowship Awards have been made possible as a result of the generous support of the McKnight Foundation.  The funding is meant to provide regional artists with the monetary support necessary for significant career development and advancement.

Artists eligible for the fellowship must be at least 21 years old, demonstrate sustained accomplishment in their chosen artistic field for at least five years, and have permanent residence in the five-county region.

Fellowship funding can be used for a variety of purposes including, but certainly not limited to, exploring new directions or continuing work in progress, production costs and materials, dedicating time to engage in collaborative and community projects, non-credited educational experiences that will further an artistic career, or embarking on travel or research that will advance a career.

Awardees will begin their fellowship within 6 months of receiving the award and have 18 months to complete their experiences.

The Region 2 Arts Council feels strongly that our region possesses enough high caliber artists to support and sustain this fellowship program for years to come.  The R2AC is excited to create a strong community of R2AC fellows and support regional artists in this unique way.

The application deadline for these fellowships is January 19, 2011.
