The Bemidji Community Art Center presents the It’s Only Clay (IOC) – 2010 Lecture: “Clay as Language” by IOC 2010 juror, Simon Levin.
Art is the communication of ideas. In this lecture, Levin parses the non-verbal language of wood-fired ceramics into its basic elements. Drawing the analogy between these elements and words, he identifies parallels between statements in clay and verbal sentences, paragraphs, essays, voice and style.
Lush slides support the lecture with a visual feast and the narrow topic of wood-fired functional ceramics expands into a working theory of art.
Join us on Wednesday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m. at the Headwaters School of Music and the Arts, 519 Minnesota Ave, Downtown, Bemidji.
IOC 2010 also features an exhibit opening on Nov 5th from 5 to 7pm. Visit the Bemidji Community Art Center for the 8th Annual It’s Only Clay National Competition and Exhibit featuring an artist presentation at 6pm.
