The Blank Canvas Gallery and Education Center is offering Smorgasgourd – An Intro to Gourd Art.
Learn from expert gourd artist Connie Schindel, who has taken classes at the Wuertz Farm Gourd Festival in Casa Grande, Arizona, and has been teaching gourd art techniques since 2008. The workshop will cover a brief history of the use of gourds and the types of gourds grown in the U.S. Participants will learn to how to select gourds, clean and treat raw gourds, create a design, burn the design, and various techniques for coloring and finishing their gourd.
The workshop will take place at Jerry Wegenast’s Workshop at 23904 Vacation Lane in Rochert, Minnesota. It will be held on Thursday, October 7th and Friday Oct. 8th, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The workshop is limited to ten (10) people. The fee is $75 per person.
To register, send a check in the amount of $75.00 made payable to the Region 2 Arts Council, 426 Bemidji Avenue, Bemidji, MN 56601. The registration deadline is Monday October 4, 2010. Please note that there will be no refunds unless the workshop is cancelled.
