The Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation is offering a Novice Writers’ Workshop. Everyone has a story to tell–their own, or perhaps one belonging to someone they have met along the way. Participants will explore different elements of writing, such as beginnings, details, and found-objects. All genres and interests are invited and the workshop is open to anyone who is a high school senior or older.
Jeanette Lukowski, the presenter, has been teaching college-level writing courses since 2001, and has been an Advertising Copywriter both in-house and on a freelance basis since the early-’90s. She holds a B.A. in English, an M.A. in Teaching College Composition, and is currently completing an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Goddard College.
There will also be a one-hour presentation on publishing by Susan Carol Hauser, an established author of such works as “Outside After Dark: New and Selected Poems,” four books on nature with subjects including poison ivy, ticks, wild rice, and maple sugaring, as well as a volume on writing.
The workshop will take place at the David Park House on the BSU campus in Bemidji, Minnesota. It will be held on Saturdays, July 24 and 31, and August 7 and 14, from 9 a.m. –11 a.m. The workshop is limited to twelve (12) people. The fee is $50 per person.
To register, send a check in the amount of $50.00 made payable to the Region 2 Arts Council, 426 Bemidji Avenue, Bemidji, MN 56601. The registration deadline is July 17, 2010. Please note that there will be no refunds unless the workshop is cancelled.
