Local Artists Begin “Work of Art” Series

Local artists Holly Alcott,Patricia Heart, Kirk Van Dorn, Don Houseman, Terry Honstead, Kathy Gustafson, and Deb Krueger, and Kathy Weis concentrate on setting time sensitive, attainable goals while Kathleen Richert assists with suggestions and positive feedback.

Seventeen artists residing in Region 2 counties attended the first of a ten part “Work of Art” workshop series Thursday evening at the Bemidji High School.

Kathleen Richert, Director of Artist Services for Minnesota-based Springboard for the Arts, led the workshop which focused on career planning for artists.  Artists will attend nine more evening sessions, all of which are dedicated to the business of art.  Future topics include: time management, professional presentation, marketing, legal considerations, financial management, business plans, pricing work, funding work, and artists and web 2.0.

Normally, this series would come with a price tag of around $500.00 per participant and participants would have to travel to the cities to take part.  Thanks to Minnesota’s Legacy funding, Springboard for the Arts is able to bring these workshops, crucial to the success and viability of working artists, to the eleven regional arts council territories across the great state of Minnesota.
