Public Art 101 Workshop

The Region 2 Art Council, in partnership with Forecast Public Artworks, invites city managers, community developers, parks and recreation planners, library directors, non-profit organizers, artists and art enthusiasts to this Public Art 101 Workshop which will be presented by Forecast Public Art co-founder and Executive Director, Jack Becker.

Forecast Public Art is a Saint Paul based nonprofit organization whose mission is to strengthen and advance the field of public art locally, nationally and internationally. Forecast publishes Public Art Review, the world’s leading journal critically exploring contemporary public art.

The event is FREE and will take place Tuesday, April 27 from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Beltrami County Board Room in the Beltrami County Administration Building, 701 Minnesota Avenue, in Bemidji.

Becker will review recent national and international public art projects, address the economic benefits of public art and provide a step-by-step guided tour through the process of developing a public art project.

Public art can be political and controversial.  This workshop will address the potential of controversy and how to turn it into a constructive dialogue within a community.

Public art creates cultural tourism, resulting in positive economic and cultural impacts. Learn how to involve artists in public improvement projects.

Attendees will have opportunities to meet with others in the region interested in public art.  They will discover resources for exploring public art possibilities, and be inspired to get planning started!
