The Region 2 Arts Council has scheduled a Mentor Training Workshop for professional artists in Beltrami, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, and Clearwater counties who would like to provide one-on-one mentorships with 8th – 12th grade students. Fosston artist, teacher, and mentor Ric Sorenson will conduct the workshop that is scheduled for Thursday, March 25 from 5:30 – 7:30. It will be held at the Beltrami Electric Community Room. The participation fee is $10 and the sign-up deadline is March 19.
The R2AC encourages professional artists of all disciplines from woodworkers and writers to dancers and sculptors to attend this workshop. Area students are submitting grants applications that will pay professional artists for their time mentoring. The grant funds are available as a result of the Legacy amendment passed in November of 2008.
Mentoring provides students with exposure to the real-world experience of being a successful artist, allows them to hone their skills in a safe, creative environment, and encourages them to expand their minds and abilities in terms of the discipline of their choice and the world of art as a whole. Please stop by the R2AC office at 426 Bemidji Ave N in Bemidji, call 218-751-5447, or email katiecarter@r2arts.org to sign up for this workshop.
