A two-day fiber workshop, “Braids, Cordmaking and Knotting Techniques for Fiber, Jewelry and Bead Artists,” coordinated by Dawn Standera will be offered March 27-28, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Beltrami Electric Cooperative Room in Bemidji. The workshop will be taught by Marion Hunziker-Larsen, who has worked with thread all of her life producing a large collection of limited edition and one-of-a-kind pieces. She uses various fiber techniques including micro macramé, Cavandoli knotting, Kumihimo braiding, Chinese Knotting and cord making with gemstones, beads and cabochons.
Her presentation will address questions about thread, its construction, and the best ones to use for jewelry. Marion will also present a wide range of work done with thread and cord by other artists.
No prior experience is necessary for this class, but practicing a few knots: the square knot, the half hitch, the overhand and larkshead knots prior to class is recommended. PDF documents of these knots will be available prior to the class.
To register for the class send a check in the amount of $85.00 and a note with your name, telephone number and email address to the Region 2 Arts Council, 426 Bemidji Avenue, Bemidji, MN 56601.
Please note: A free trunk show and digital presentation, “Cord, Thread and Fiber Jewelry,” will be held in the Beltrami Electric Cooperative Room on Friday evening, March 26, at 7:00 p.m. If you have questions, please contact Dawn Standera by email buck77226 or call Standera at 218-586-3434
