R2AC Awards Arts Project Grants

Region 2 Arts Council (R2AC) recently awarded $10,300 through the Arts Project Grants Program, designed for organizations and schools to create or produce an arts project or event. The recipients included:

Friends of the Bemidji Library received $540 to assist with purchase and permanent installation of the bronze sculpture, A Little Bird, by Julie Jones.  http://www.krls.org/branches/branch_bj.html

Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL), Bagley Branch, was awarded $290 to assist in hiring Robert and Lynn Halbrook to perform at the Bagley and Mahnomen Libraries for the youth Summer Reading Program for the residents of Clearwater and Mahnomen counties. http://www.larl.org/branch/bagley.html

District 309 Community Education, Park Rapids, received $1,500 to hire Todd Green, a multi-instrumentalist who performs on over 30 acoustic string, flute and percussion instruments to present two education programs for middle and high school students.

Minnesota Folklore Theater ARCC, Akeley, was awarded $920 to assist in funding “Fall for the Arts,”
to produce two plays in a joint effort with the Greater Akeley Youth Council.

Bemidji Community Theater, Bemidji, received $1,500 in funding a production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta, The Pirates of Penzance, in collaboration with the Paul Bunyan Playhouse. http://www.paulbunyan.net/users/bct/

Schoolcraft Learning Community, Bemidji, was awarded $950 to present their Winter/Spring Concert, which will showcase both the choirs and the orchestras.  http://www.schoolcraft.org/

The Depot Preservation Alliance, Baudette, received $1,000 to secure arts planning as­sistance for the creation of an Artisans’ Marketplace to serve as a work and show venue for area artisans, provide arts access to ages from youth to elder and expand area arts educational opportunities.

Red Bridge Film Festival, Park Rapids, was awarded $1,500 to assist in funding the third annual celebration of the film festival where they will invite a visiting filmmaker and exhibit six unusual films.

Headwaters School of Music & Arts received $1,500 to increase youth orchestra op­portunities for string and wind students living in Beltrami, Hubbard and Clearwater Counties. http://www.hwschool.org/

Pequana Playhouse, Baudette, was awarded $600 to assist in offering a Mixed Blood Theatre touring production of “Dr. King’s Dream” to the public and a student assembly at Lake of the Woods School.  http://www.pequana.org/

The next deadline for R2AC Arts Project Grants is March 10, 2010.

Other available grants include: R2AC/McKnight Grants (open only to 501(c)3 arts organizations), deadline January 13, 2010; Community Arts Support Grants, deadline February 10, 2010; Arts and Cultural Heritage Grants, deadlines, February 15 and May 6, 2010; Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants, deadline March 4, 2010; Individual Artist Grants, deadline February 10, 2010; Artist Mentor Grants, deadline April 15, 2010; and the Arts Legacy Designation Grants, deadline May 6, 2010.
