Anishinaabe Arts Initiative grants are available to Native American artists, community groups, schools, and organizations in or near Region 2. People in the following counties are eligible for Anishinaabe grants: Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Becker, Roseau, Itasca, and Cass Counties.

Applicants must

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be a resident of the State of Minnesota
  • have resided in the eligible counties for at least one year prior to the deadline date of the application

There are three categories of grants available from the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative.

Individual Artist Grants up to $700 for expenses to produce artistic work or for a creative opportunity.
School Residency Grants for Native American artists-in-residence up to $500. The school submits the application.
Community Project Grants for an organization or group to produce an arts project or event up to $1200. Projects must include a significant Native American component.
  1. Download and complete the Anishinaabe Art Initiative Grant Application
  2. Download and complete the 2010 Data Collection Form This form must be included with the application.
  3. If you are awarded a grant, you will be required to submit the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Final Report at the end of your project.

About the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative and Advisory Council

The Anishinaabe Arts Initiative (AAI) grants support and promote traditional and contemporary Native American arts in the region. AAI is supported by the Region 2 Arts Council with funding from the McKnight Foundation.

The AAI Advisory Council is composed of Native American artists and arts appreciators from around the region. Assistance with your grant request is available from AAI Advisory Council members or from the Region 2 Arts Council Executive Director at 218-751-5447  or  800-275-5447.
